Become a Pet Cottage Guardian
The role of guardianship is key to The Pet Cottage mission. When a pet loses its human due to death, disability, or deployment, and they are accepted into our guardianship program they either live their lives out at the Sanctuary or are placed with a forever guardian in the community.
Becoming a forever guardian is a unique opportunity to share your heart and home with a pet and have the support of The Pet Cottage. We celebrate and support the relationship by checking in regularly, paying all vet bills, (including preventatives and medications) and creating purpose and belonging for you in our pack community.

There is an application process. Because of Covid, it begins with a phone or zoom visit and interview. You are asked to provide references and they are carefully checked. Once you are approved, you become a guardian in waiting. As pets are accepted to our pack, we match pets and people. It is NOT a first come, first serve basis. The match is based on who is the best fit. Our promise is to the pet, and they will always be considered first.
We require guardians to join Happy Tails, our monthly donation program at a minimum of 25.00.
This shows us your commitment and supports our work.

Below are the responsibilities included in being a forever guardian.
The Pet Cottage Guardian Responsibilities
1. I’m a pack member of The Pet Cottage organization, that means that as a guardian, I represent and support its mission, values, and goals.
2. I will love, cherish, and care for The Pet Cottage pet.
3. I will expect frequent check-ins (at least twice a month) from my Furry Godmother to stay informed on the pet’s health and well-being.
4. I will share stories, photos, and updates of the pet often so that The Pet Cottage can share, celebrate, and highlight the important work we are all doing in the organization.
5. I will join the Happy Tails monthly donation program with a minimum contribution of $25 a month.
6. If I am traveling out of town, I will inform my Furry Godmother. If I am planning to board the pet or need help boarding the pet, I will also inform my Furry Godmother.
